A sub-divisional town east of Silchar
This page is for Lakhipur in Cachar district — not Lakhipur in Goalpara, which has its own page. The municipal board describes it as the headquarters of Lakhipur sub-division, about 33 km from Silchar and 383 km south-east of Dispur, with the Barak river to the south and the Chiri river to the north. The town committee was formed in 1960; the board now has 10 wards over about 7 km², serves more than 2,800 houses and had about 10,800 residents in 2011.
As a sub-divisional headquarters, Lakhipur draws people in for offices, schools and markets. Local businesses that are easy to find online — and clear about which Lakhipur they are in — make those trips easier to plan.
