Orchids, nurseries and a new bridge
Dhemaji has been a district since 1989, with its headquarters on the north bank of the Brahmaputra and Arunachal Pradesh to the north and east. Its rivers — the Jiadhal and Gainadi among them — bring floods that hit farm output every year. National Highway 15 passes through the town, Dhemaji has a broad-gauge station, and the Bogibeel Bridge links it to Dibrugarh by road and rail. Agriculture is the base of the economy, with a growing nursery and orchid business and services such as government jobs and teaching.
Nurseries and orchid growers sell plants people want to see before they buy, and the bridge to Dibrugarh has put a much bigger market within reach. A catalogue site with photos, availability and delivery details lets growers reach that market — and lets everyone post updates when floods disrupt roads.
