Selling Sualkuchi silk beyond Sualkuchi
Sualkuchi is a census town on the north bank of the Brahmaputra, about 35 km from Guwahati. It is known for muga, pat and eri silk, and the mekhela chadors and gamosas woven there are sold across Assam and the rest of India; handloom is the base of the local economy, which is why the town is often called the “Manchester of Assam”. The trademark “SUALKUCHI’S” is held by the Sualkuchi Tat Silpa Unnayan Samity.
For a weaving family or a silk shop, most buyers outside Assam never visit the town — they decide from photographs. A website that shows the fabric properly, explains the type of silk and the weave, and makes ordering or enquiring simple can matter more here than almost anywhere else in the state.

The site goes live and is checked once it’s running. On WordPress you can edit your own content, and ongoing monthly support is available.

Before we start
Can you set up online payments and shipping?
Yes, through Shopify or WooCommerce with a payment gateway you sign up for in your own name. Shipping rates and rules are set up to match how you actually dispatch orders.
Our photos are taken on a phone. Is that good enough?
Often, yes, with good daylight and a plain background. I can advise on how to shoot fabric so the colour and texture come through, and the site is built so images load fast on mobile.
Do you work with businesses in Assam remotely?
