Tea, a railhead and the Gibbon Sanctuary

Mariani’s municipal board places the town in Jorhat district on the Nagaland border, about 17.5 km from Jorhat Town station. Mariani junction is a major railhead of the Tinsukia railway division, the town is surrounded by some of the largest tea gardens in India, and the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary is about 5 km away on the road to Nakachari. The board notes that the town once had one of India’s largest plywood factories, which closed after tree felling was banned. About 20,800 people lived there in 2011.

Tea estates, a junction and a wildlife sanctuary bring three kinds of visitor — buyers, travellers and nature tourists. A website for a lodge, guide, tea brand or service business can speak to the one that matters most to it.

How a remote project runs

I’m based in Hyderabad and work remotely. There’s no office to visit — every project is handled directly by me, over WhatsApp, email and calls, with designs shared online for review.
