A trading town for farm produce
Mangaldoi is the headquarters of Darrang district. Its municipal board, constituted in 1957, describes the town as an important trading centre for agricultural products, about 68 km by road from Guwahati, with the Mangaldai and Bega rivers running through it and Orang National Park about 34 km to the east. The district administration describes Darrang’s economy as agrarian, with about 85% of people in agriculture and large vegetable production.
Farm trade runs on relationships, but buyers from Guwahati and beyond increasingly check a supplier online before the first order. A trader, cold-storage operator or input supplier with a clear website looks established — and easier to choose.
