A young district with old temples
Biswanath district was declared on 15 August 2015, formed from the Gohpur and Biswanath areas of Sonitpur, with Arunachal Pradesh to the north. Its headquarters, Biswanath Chariali, takes its name from Biswanath Ghat; the municipal board says the town was established in 1970, covers about 6 km² and claims Assam’s first clock tower. Ahom kings built several temples in the district, including the Biswanath temple, Sivanath Moth and Bordol temple.
A new district headquarters attracts offices, banks, hospitals and schools — and the people who move for them. Temples and heritage add visitors on top. Businesses that serve either group need to be easy to find and clear about where they are.
